Pick a PS5 by discs, storage and your TV

The PS5 is Sony’s PlayStation 5 games console, which you connect to a TV and play with a wireless controller. First decide if you need a disc drive, because some editions get games only as downloads. Then check your TV and the storage space. For the console alone, see our PS5 consoles, and for a second pad, see our PS5 controllers.

PS5 checks before you buy

A PS5 with a disc drive reads game discs. A Digital Edition has no drive, so you buy games as downloads.

Next, look at your TV. Frames per second means how many pictures the screen shows each second, and a higher number makes movement look smoother. A PS5 can send up to 120 frames per second, but you see that only on a TV that supports 120Hz.

Storage is the space inside the console where games and updates are saved. Check the storage size on the box, and choose more space if you keep many big games installed.

A console made for another region may come with a different plug on its power cable. Check it before you buy, and use a travel adapter if it does not fit your wall socket.

The DualSense controller has haptic feedback, which gives small, detailed shakes you feel in your hands. It also has adaptive triggers, which push back when you press them, like a real brake or bow string.

Choice	Good for	Note
PS5 with a disc drive	Game discs and buying used games	Reads discs out of the box
Digital Edition	Buying every game as a download	Sony’s add-on drive adds discs later
DualSense controller	A second player or a spare pad	Charges through a USB-C cable

What changes the PS5 price in Sri Lanka

A built-in disc drive, more storage and stronger graphics push the console price up. A spare controller is a much smaller spend than a console.

Frequently asked questions

Can PS5 play PS4 games?

Most of them. Sony says the large majority of PS4 games play on PS5. A few are PS4 only, and some features may not work. A Digital Edition cannot read PS4 game discs.

Does PS5 play DVDs?

A PS5 with a disc drive plays DVDs, Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray films. A Digital Edition needs Sony’s add-on disc drive first.

Does a PS5 controller work on PC?

Yes, on a Windows PC, through a USB-C cable or Bluetooth. Sony says haptic feedback on a PC needs the cable, and each game decides which controller features work.
